What is a Vault Copy Birth Certificate?
A Vault Copy Birth Certificate is a photocopy of the original birth registration form completed at the time of a child’s birth. This form, known as DHA-24 or BI-24 for older records, is filled in by the parents or guardians and submitted to the Department of Home Affairs. The form is then stored in Pretoria’s secure archives, and the Vault Copy is issued as an official photocopy, stamped and signed by the Director-General.
