The Law Has Changed — And It’s In Your Favour
Before 1983, only British fathers could pass on citizenship to their children. Mothers had no such right.
But now, under Section 4C of the British Nationality Act, the law has been updated to correct this gender discrimination. And if your mother was British, you may be eligible to register as a British citizen.
Even better — thanks to the Romein case, you don’t need your mother to have been born in the UK. If she was British through a UK-born parent, that still counts.
